Introduction: Dr De Vos was elected as the President of the South African Orthopaedic Association (SAOA) in 2013 and was also elected President of the South African Arthroplasty Society from 2017-2021. He was part of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Carousel Presidents from 2013-2014. He is the co-author of the Guidelines for Hip and Knee Arthroplasty in South Africa and specialises in all hip, knee and shoulder pathology in patients older than 10 years. Surgical procedures include arthroscopic surgery as well as arthroplasty surgery.

    “A multi-centre, randomised, single-blind, red blood cell-controlled, parallel-group study to evaluate the effect on allogenic red blood cell use and the safety of room temperature stable Haemoglobin-Based Oxygen Carrier-201 (HBOC-201) when administered therapeutically and peri-operatively in orthopaedic surgery patients who have not received erythropoietin in THA and TKA patients, nor undergone preoperative autologous blood donation.”
